Vegan Eating-Veggie Fajita!

After the vegetables have marinated, heat a frying pan or wok until very hot. Add the marinated vegetables and stir-fry over high heat for 5-6 minutes, until the mushrooms and peppers are just tender. Spoon the filling onto each tortilla, garnish with guacamole, sour cream (and if desired, picante sauce or salsa) and roll up. It makes wonderful leftovers (if there are any!)

As a continuation from my previous blog, which I spoke about different benefits from eating vegetarian foods, I’d like to talk about the different foods you can eat. Incorporating vegetarian meals into your diet is actually quite easy if you’re used to a heavier, meat based diet.
This is a favourite, quick, easy and satisfying.
Vegetable Fajita
• I onion
• 1 of each: red, green, yellow bell pepper
• 1 garlic clove
• 8 ounces of mushrooms
• 6 tablespoons of olive oil
• 2 tablespoons of chilli powder
• 3 tablespoons of lime juice
• Fajita seasoning
• Lemon pepper
• Guacamole
• Sour cream
• Flour tortillas
Slice onion and peppers into strips. Remove mushroom stems and slice the mushrooms thickly. Combine in a bowl, add the crushed garlic and mix slightly.
In a separate bowl, mix the oil, chilli powder, lime juice, fajita seasoning and lemon pepper and pour over the vegetable mixture. Stir well and set aside for an hour or more.

If you decide to try this out, give me some feedback on how it turned out! Good luck!

Meatatarian vs Vegetarian

Do you love meat? I love meat! The tender beef just brings water to my mouth! Although I just had a cheeseburger about an hour ago. I have tried to become a vegetarian for many reasons; most important reason being that it eliminate a lot of fat from your diet and keeps you fit and healthy. I find that it is difficult to cook and eat certain foods when you’re a vegetarian which just makes life so much harder and gives you another problem you shouldn’t have to worry about. Maybe vegetarianism isn’t for everyone; some people are devoted to meat. I came across a couple of reasons to consider being a vegetarian but I’m still deciding on whether I should become a vegan or not because it is a big commitment.
1.Cut the fat. While meat provides a lot of protein, it also provides a ton of fat ,especially saturated fat. Which means that by cutting out meat, you’ll be cutting out a lot of bad fat, and replacing it with things that are probably not only lower in fat, but that contain some good fats. This greatly reduces your risk of heart disease, and in fact numerous studies have shown that vegetarians tend to have a lower risk of heart disease, as well as hypertension, diabetes, cancer and other diseases.
2.Less food poisoning. Food poisoning gets millions of people each year and many of them from meat, which is a good breeding ground for harmful bacteria, especially if not stored, prepared or cooked exactly right. Cut out meat and you lower your risk of food poisoning (especially if you also cut out eggs and dairy, but that’s optional).
3.Reduce the suffering. You probably don’t want to hear about the horrific treatment of animals that are raised for food, even before they are slaughtered for our benefit. But suffice it to say, there are great amounts of suffering involved, and by cutting out meat, you are reducing your involvement in that.
4.Help the environment. There are actually numerous ways that the meat industry harms the environment, from a waste of our resources (animals raised for food eat enough grain to feed the world), to a waste of fuel, to the pollution caused by their waste matter, and much more
5.Help your weight loss. It’s possible to be vegetarian and eat very unhealthy foods, including Coke and fries and fried stuff and pizza and chips. But it’s much more difficult. Studies repeatedly show that vegetarians are slimmer and are less likely to be obese than meat eaters. If you’re trying to lose weight, being a vegetarian can be a good part of your program.
6.Get more nutrition. In general (though not necessarily), vegetarians replace meat with more nutritious foods, such as fruits, vegetables, beans, whole grains, and so on. If you do that, you will be getting more of the nutrients your body needs, giving you better health, less illness, and more energy.

Halloween Foods

It’s October 20th and Halloween is coming up. Are you having trouble coming up with ideas to make your party look a bit more exciting and really in the spirit? Well today I’m going to talk to you about wonderful ideas for decorative Halloween foods. Have fun, eat, drink and be scary!
Bat Wings with Dip and Sinking Hands
Ingredients
• Cooking spray
• 1/2 cup reduced-sodium soy sauce
• 2 teaspoons brown sugar
• 2 teaspoons finely grated fresh ginger
• 3 cloves garlic, minced
• 1 1/2 teaspoons five-spice powder
• 1 teaspoon hot sauce, or more, to taste
• Salt and freshly ground black pepper
• 20 chicken wings
• 4 boneless skinless chicken breast halves (about 5 ounces each)
• 1 (11-ounce) package refrigerated breadstick dough
• 1 egg white
• Sliced almonds
• 1 tablespoon grated Parmesan
• 1 cup sour cream
• 3 tablespoons freshly chopped parsley leaves
• 2 tablespoons coarse ground mustard
Directions
Preheat oven to 450 degrees F. Coat 2 large baking sheets with cooking spray.
In a shallow dish or plastic bag, combine soy sauce, sugar, ginger, garlic, five-spice powder, hot sauce, salt and black pepper, to taste. Mix well. Add chicken wings and chicken breasts and turn to coat.
Transfer chicken wings and breasts to baking sheets and brush with marinade. Bake 25 to 30 minutes, until chicken is cooked through.
To make the "hands", reduce oven temperature to 375 degrees F. Coat a large baking sheet with cooking spray.
Unroll dough and separate into 12 breadsticks. Roll into 4-inch long "fingers" and place on baking sheet. Brush egg white all over breadsticks and place almond slice on 1 end, making a fingernail. Sprinkle Parmesan over rest of breadstick. Bake 10 to 12 minutes, until golden brown.
To make the dip, in a medium bowl, combine sour cream, parsley and mustard. Mix well. Place dip in a serving bowl and insert fingers. Serve the wings with the dip and "hands" and reserve the chicken breasts for the salad.
To serve, you will need a serving tray, and a bowl. Organize the chicken wings around the bowl on the tray as bat wings. Once you add the dip to the bowl stick the fingers in the dip (they will stand) in a way that makes them look like a sinking hand.
Now if you’re looking for a desert, I have the easiest and best idea you could possibly think off. Well all you have to do is get a normal chocolate cake put it in a tray and mash it up. Add some chunks of chocolate on top and you’re done! Now you’re probably wondering what this is. You’ve just made yourself a cat litter box. Now it all comes together. This is a perfect desert. It’s nasty and quite horrifying if you think about it, but it will taste delicious.

I found a great website on Halloween recipes, if you liked this one or didn't like it and want more ideas check out this awesome website.

I Wish I Knew Natalie Portman

K- os recently released a song named “ I wish I knew Natalie Portman”. The beat that we hear in the background is from Phantom Planet, the song name is California. Both songs are very different. They have different meanings.
K-os’s song is about a man falling in love with a woman and making mistakes. He mourns his loss and mistakes as he pleads for her. There are problems with their relationship. He also sings about him not being able to make her love him. The song is mainly about him left with his sorrows. The song shows a lot of deep feelings about love.
The beat of the song is catchy which makes the listener want to hear the song. The beat of the song is very upbeat whereas the lyrics of the song are about running away and mourning. The beat does not really go with the song because the lyrics contradict the beat.
The original song “California” is about coming home to California, Hence the name of the song; California. The beat suits the song California more because it’s about coming home, in a rather happy sense, whereas the other song is about man running away from a sad love life.

Our Lips Are Sealed

Many artists these days are copying other singers, and band’s songs. For example, “My lips are sealed” by the Go Go’s. This song was copied by Hilary and Haylie Duff. The lyrics are exactly the same. They talk about everyday life as a teenage girl. The song describes how life is hard as a teenage girl, dealing with the problems that they have to face. Many teenage girls can relate to this song. Songs like these are popular because it helps with their ego, and gives them some encouragement.
The lyrics are about girls who face hard times because of rumours that are spread about them. Within the lyrics they reveal that they don’t care, about what others say. They lyrics describe that they should have self- confidence and not be self- conscience about themselves. The song also teaches that they should not take revenge and do the same, because then they would be no difference between both. To describe this they sing “My lips are sealed” in the chorus.
The song makes me feel happy. It gives me encouragement to not listen to what people have to say about me. I think it is a good song and is suitable for teenage girls. They teach that as a weapon of defence from other people we must use silence. This promotes anti-violence which is good for today’s society. Rather than getting into fights, silence is the best option. As a teenage girl it is hard to be who we want to be without having people to judge us. In the song they sing that it doesn’t matter what people say. Therefore we should be who we are to truly be happy.
In the Go Go’s video, there are a group of girls doing whatever they please and being who they are. They are having fun and show that they can have fun by doing embarrassing things. It is similar to Hilary and Haylie Duff’s video also. The main idea is about being true to you. Both videos promote that. In the Go Go’s video, the group of girls jump into a gigantic fountain and start playing in it, without minding what other people are saying.

Food Passion

To be truly passionate about something, you must incorporate it in your daily life. This may be hard due to any circumstances, but what better passion is there than food? Take into consideration the impact food has on every part of our lives. Like come on, we do it at least 3 times a day, how can you not love it? To be passionate about food doesn’t mean just cooking and eating certain dishes.
I wonder how I developed a passion for food. Of course many people are fond of eating different cuisines and what not, but let’s take it back a couple of years. How did it all start? I think I was influenced by my parents and my grandparents at an early age, spending time in the kitchen and inheriting their exciting food. It could also be while travelling and experimenting to cook for the first time. I can’t seem to categorize where my interest really came from but I think it just grew on me. I think food is a big category; we integrate it in our lives so much. It becomes a part of our social life, daily activity and most important, our health. On the verge of making my own food I was engrossed by the fact that I could make my own food, the way I want it, which would be perfect, and actually tasty! Although that didn’t work out well, I’m still drawn to food and cooking. It’s hard to get through a day without scrutinizing my food and also others around me. I’m also constantly digging up cookbooks and recipes. It’s funny how I find myself day dreaming and food and their taste, especially commercials, they kill me! I breathe, sleep and talk food.
Thinking back at how I obsess over food, I think I might be a foodie. Now you’re probably wondering what a foodie is. Basically, a foodie is a person who is passionate about anything that involves food. For example, if you get excited over new food products. Do you plan your vacation based on certain restaurants in the area? Do you make more than one desert for just two people? Personally, I wouldn’t do that, only on special occasions; family gatherings and such but that doesn’t stop me from eating more than one kind of desert! I can see myself being a foodie because; I get thrilled for new restaurants to open in the area. Now if your favourite channel if the food network, your definitely a foodie. I have other interests and hobbies but food is still vital. Despite my other interests, I think I can declare myself as a foodie!
